Do I need my photo on the About Me page?

Why do we need a photo of ourselves on your about me page? After all people are buying your product or service, so what difference does it make in how you look? Having a photograph of yourself on your business page immediately enables your customers to connect with you. The old adage that people buy from people is never truer, especially in the current digital universal.

A professional commercial headshot, also known as a photography portrait, will help you stand out from the competition. It helps you introduce yourself to your customers directly.

Many small business’ feel that it’s really awkward having their photo taken, so they try to avoid this by taking a selfie. However, selfies are fine with you friends on a night out but is this the way you want to present your self to your customers?

I agree, having your photograph taken is a bit weird. Over the last 10 years working as a photographer, many people start a conversation with me that goes something like this.

” Hi Becky, I need a photo of me for my website / about me page / twitter profile / LinkedIn profile and so on but I really really don’t like my photo being taken, I think I am the only person in the world who thinks like this, but can you help me?”

But Yes I can help you! First of all I’ll share some details with you.

99% of people who book a photographer say they don’t like having their photograph taken

So I understand that it’s a weird thing. It makes you feel nervous, awkward and perhaps reminds you of being a small child with your parents insisting that you stand next to the Christmas tree for an annual photo and perhaps that has scared you for life…Or is that just me? Anyway…

Some people avoid this task so much that they decide not to put a headshot on the “About Me” page of their website. This is not a solution folks. You need to show firstly that you exist, it highlights a level of integrity. It also shows who you are, people really like to see that. It helps reinforce your company brand and reminds viewers that you are authentic and relatable.

As a portrait photographer, it’s my job to acknowledge the weirdness of the situation, and help you along. Collaboratively we can create a collection of headshots that are relaxed, professional, interesting and most importantly on brand for your company. In short we can create a collection of killer images that you will want to use on your website and social media.
